Asphalt shingles are the most commonly used material in the roofing industry. There are different types of asphalt shingles as well, but we will cover the most common in our area. Three-tab or builder’s grade shingles are the baseline. These shingles are rated to last 20-25 years. Architectural shingles have a more dimensional look and are typically rated for 30 years. These shingles give the best bang for your buck and are the most common shingles used when re-roofing a house. The next step up from architectural shingles is designer shingles. There is an assortment of styles ranging from a slate to a wood-shake look. These shingles are typically a much heavier duty material and vary widely in cost.
